Wheelchair outside giraffe enclosure.

We aim to offer all visitors easy access for a visit that is rich in experience. Upon arrival, we have two disabled parking spots available, while the tram stop area outside the zoo has been sunk to facilitate wheelchair access. Tickets to the Zoo can be purchased at a reduced price, and for those accompanying disabled visitors, admission is free.

Plus our broad, paved walkways allow everyone to explore the entire site with ease. The animal enclosures and houses as well as all localities provide easy access (no steps). We also aim to offer all of our visitors exciting views with full-length windows and spacious enclosure design.

Disabled toilets are located at the entrance area, in the Penguin Café and at the Africa House, and are specially marked in the zoo map.

Wheelchairs are available to borrow free of charge on request for visitors with limited mobility. These can be reserved on +49351 - 47 80 60 for your visit to the zoo.

Lockers are available in the foyer for small items of baggage (e.g. tote bags, handbags). You can hire a key at our information desk for 1.00 euro (plus a 10 euro deposit). Individual suitcases can be deposited at our information desk free of charge. Unfortunately it is not possible to reserve baggage storage in advance.
All of the zoo’s main walkways are accessible, including for wheelchairs and buggies, for example. One of the three entrances to the Prof. Brandes house is not accessible for wheelchairs or buggies. Some of the viewing platforms are also not suitable for wheelchairs. However, we aim to offer all of our visitors exciting views with full-length windows and specified route guidance. If you have any questions regarding accessibility in our zoo, please call us on +49 351 47 80 630 and we will be happy to advise you.
Yes, assistance dogs are permitted inside the Zoo, provided the owner has a qualifying ID card. This must be shown to ticket office staff. The dog must also be clearly identifiable as an assistance dog so that other visitors can see that it is a trained assistance dog.
