Whitsun at the Zoo

- 24 May 2026
- 10 am - 5 pm
- Animal action day
The Whitsun weekend promises to be colourful and eventful.
On 22 May, we’ll be welcoming NABU Dresden for a bat-watching excursion in the Großer Garten. In a short talk, you will first explore the secrets of bats and then set off with an ultrasound detector to search for traces of them in the neighbouring Großer Garten. There, the little nocturnal hunters can be easily observed and their otherwise inaudible calls are made audible with technical assistance.
Admission is free. The event starts at 8 pm in the Auditorium of Dresden Zoo
On Whit Sunday, everyone is warmly invited from 10 am to 5 pm to an interactive and varied programme focusing on nature and species conservation. To mark ‘Biodiversity Day’, regional organisations in particular will be presenting their projects in Dresden and Saxony in more detail. Young explorers can learn in a fun way how they too can already help protect and preserve the local natural world and flora. What is it like to live in a forest with wolves? Can wild bees survive in the city? What creatures can be found in wetlands? Whether you’re an amateur gardener or an insect enthusiast – there’s something for everyone here.
On Whit Monday, from 10 am, young and old explorers alike can head to the Neugierexpress’s hands-on and experimentation area to try out simple technical experiments, puzzle things out, tinker and be amazed.
And the curtains will also rise again at the Zookasperbühne on both Whitsun bank holidays: look forward to the Glöckchen puppet theatre on 24 and 25 May at 11 am, 2 pm and 3.30 pm.
