New addition to our snow leopards
Animal news | 3 December 2025
Bataar, our new male snow leopard, was affectionately named “Berggeist” (mountain spirit) by our carnivore keepers, as he was still very reserved during his first few days of settling in and initially preferred to explore the outdoor enclosure only after dusk.
The 14-year-old male comes from Tierpark Berlin and will be the new partner for our 13-year-old female Istari. They could smell, see and hear each other from day one. However, the two big cats are still yet to meet. As Bataar is a very calm and relaxed cat, we are confident that their first meeting will go well.
Bataar has already produced four offspring with his former partner in Berlin. While not impossible, it is rather unlikely that he will produce further offspring, as both animals have already reached an advanced age.
The most important thing for us is that Istari now has the company of a partner again.
Bataar’s short biography:
- Born on 30 April 2011 in Liberec Zoo
- Lived at Tierpark Berlin since 2012
- Personality: very sociable, calm and friendly
