Delu the baby Bactrian camel

Animal news | 31 May 2021

Delu the baby Bactrian camel

Inka, our female Bactrian camel, gave birth to a baby girl, whom our animal keepers named Delu, on 25 March. Delu is the 7th calf born to bull Samuel and cow Inka. Our keepers needed to assist Inka with the birth to make sure little Delu came into the world safely. She had become stuck in the birth canal, and so the keepers and our vet helped with the delivery. This kind of obstetric intervention is not unusual with Bactrian camels. The healthy calf is now nursing very well and sticking close to mum Inka.
