Binturong cub Holly passes away

Unfortunately we have very sad news about the loss of our young binturong, Holly. At the end of June, Helga and Holly contracted a viral infection that severely weakened their immune systems. Holly, the younger of the twins, acquired a bacterial infection, and despite being treated with antibiotics, she died within just a few days of sepsis.
The viral infection caused severe pharyngitis (inflammation of the soft tissue in the throat), which meant both cubs also temporarily stopped eating and became even weaker, making the situation worse. Helga, the larger cub, fortunately survived this serious illness and now seems to be out of the woods with the help of intensive treatment. However, we will continue to monitor her closely so that we can step in swiftly in the event of any issues. Roquefort and Swantje, the twins’ parents, did not fall ill.
