Zoo Kasper puppet master Stefan Flinner celebrated his stage anniversary
On 1 July 2011 our puppet master Stefan Flinner celebrated 20 years of performing. Kasper and his colourful little house are an integral part of a trip to the zoo; we can’t imagine the park without him! His hilarious adventures have become a must-see for young and old alike. When Egon Gäble, founder of the Dresden Zoo Puppet Theatre, died in 1967, it was a long time before a successor was found. But Stefan Flinner has breathed new life into the little stage, thrilling children with over 50 different plays since 1991.

Zoo Kasper DVD
Now you can bring Kasper into your living room as well
There’s no need to miss out on Kasper’s adventures, even at home:
The Zoo Kasper DVD offers 50 minutes of fun and entertainment to take away!
Dresden Zoo has hosted Kasper since 1931. Puppet master Stefan Flinner has taken care of performances for 15 years – he makes up stories and dialogue, works behind the scenes and composes the music. Now that your children can take home the adventures of Kasper and Seppel, the zoo’s resident puppet will no doubt be enjoying even more popularity soon. The DVD was produced thanks to an initiative by René Lay and Raoul Heimrich from Shuto Entertainment GmbH. They are originally from Dresden, and have known and loved Kasper since childhood.
“We want to make sure that good old Kasper doesn’t disappear into obscurity”, said Raoul Heimrich, himself the father of three small Kasper fans. “He’s part of German history. And unlike the Teletubbies and things like that, Kasper’s escapades are full of little pieces of wisdom that the children pick up without realising.” Last year they also helped to bring a Kasper puppet theatre from the Black Forest into people's living rooms, thus launching the series “Deutschlands Kasper Theater” (Germany's Kasper Theatre). Their next project involves collaborating with a Kasper puppet show from Hamburg.
DVD at the Zoo shop
The DVD “Der Dresdner Zookasper” (The Dresden Zoo Kasper) is available from the souvenir shop at Dresden Zoo. It includes four adventures and runs for a total of 50 minutes. You can select one of two audio tracks – the original sound recording by the puppeteers or in assigned roles with Stefan Flinner, Sachsenkind Friedlinde and Jürgen Haase.

The animals at our zoo need plenty of peace and quiet; they don’t like people shouting or dashing around. But we know that most people need to let loose at some point. That’s where our six playgrounds come in ...
Let off some steam here
We have had a small petting zoo here since 1986. In October 1992, however, the site was completely rebuilt. Now you can pet Cameroon sheeps and domestic pigs.

Children’s birthdays at the zoo are certainly something special. Away from everyday urban life, children will learn lots of little facts about the inhabitants on an interactive tour through the zoo.
